Smoke extraction shafts are an important part of a building’s fire protection system. Their role is to ensure the controlled extraction of smoke and hot combustion products in the event of a fire. Because the shafts run through successive storeys, maintaining adequate fire resistance and integrity of the entire structure is particularly important.
We provide fire protection for smoke extraction shafts, tailored to the shaft construction, the design requirements and the parameters of the system used. Depending on the solution, we use the ROCKWOOL CONLIT system and other systems designed for fire protection applications.
Scope of work
Our shaft protection work includes:
- fire-rated encasements and enclosures for smoke extraction shafts,
- protection of shaft walls and structural elements,
- fire-rated insulation of smoke extraction ducts,
- protection of connections and junctions between enclosure elements,
- sealing of areas where the continuity of fire protection must be maintained,
- firestopping of service penetrations through shaft walls.
We select the method on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the required fire resistance class, the shaft construction, the type of services, how the ducts are routed and the technical conditions on site.
We use complete system solutions, including the appropriate materials, fixings and products for making joints and seals. Correct installation of every element of the enclosure ensures that the protection retains its required performance, even at points particularly vulnerable to loss of integrity.
We protect smoke extraction shafts in residential, office, industrial, warehouse and service buildings, both on new-build projects and in existing buildings.
